WildPops is the second instalment in the PopWins collection from AvatarUX, an independent iGaming studio that operates out of Hong Kong.

As a company based in Asia, it makes sense that the team use their knowledge of the region when theming their games, and WildPops is another example of AvatarUX’s modus operandi of delivering Asian-style games to the European market.

For anyone who played PopRocks, the original title in the series from AvatarUX, this sequel offers some slight improvements and changes, so it’s not a case of spinning the reels of a slot that’s very similar to the first release.

You could suggest that the visuals are more impressive, with more attention to detail being evident. Everything is more cheery too, which is never a bad thing.

To deliver an authentic Asian experience, AvatarUX have put the work in where the icons that appear on the reels are concerned. The symbols can be split into three parts, each with increasing value.

Out of all the icons, the ghostly blue dragon pays the most, with five across a payline worth 30x. But, of course, this game is very much about the PopWins mechanic, which we will explore in detail in the next section.

Game Features

The great news about the features in WildPops is that they’re all interlinked rather than having standalone bonus rounds.

The PopWins mechanic is what kicks everything off, with icons involved in a winning combination removed and replaced by two more for each, which means the game area will expand.

There is a multiplier meter to the side of the game, and for every batch of seven winning icons, its value will rise by 1x. Ideally, players are looking to expand the reels, so they’re seven icons high across the board, as this opens the door for even more perks to come a punter’s way.

When each reel is seven icons strong, players will receive three lives, which are effectively free spins. During this round of the game, the multiplier can climb, but it won’t reset, which is a significant plus.

In WildPops, AvatarUX have added a random feature which sees wilds enter the game area. It’s worth noting that players won’t see any wilds as standard they’re only attainable by landing three wins in a row, with two wilds thrown into the mix when this happens. This feat will occur for every three wins that occur consecutively, so it is possible to receive six wilds for nine consecutive wins.

It’s good to see that AvatarUX have attempted to mix things up where the features are concerned. Hence, players aren’t just relying on the PopWins mechanic to unlock some fun bonus rounds and improved winning potential.
