Journey to the West Slot Review – Demo, RTP & Features

Journey to the West is a slot game developed by Pragmatic Play and is inspired by a Chinese fantasy novel of the same name. The novel has had an enormous global cultural impact as it has been the source of inspiration for other juggernaut franchises.

The characters of the book have been painstakingly recreated in the 3×5 reel grid that offers 25 paylines. Your wager range is between 0.25c and €125.00. For your troubles of placing a bet, you are rewarded with a respectable RTP of 96.47% and a maximum win worth 400x your selected bet amount.

Journey to the West also offers a handful of exciting features that range from the tried and true wild symbol, scatter symbol and free spins bonus rounds to a special feature that will be explained later. The combination of these features is where the secret sauce of this Pragmatic Play title resides, which does the source material justice just as the other mega adaptions have previously done.

Immersive and highly detailed art alongside an Asian-themed soundtrack that will entertain you for hours on end isn’t all this Pragmatic Play Slot game has on offer for you. Journey to the West also has a ton of personality, thanks to the source material. Pragmatic Play masterfully combines these aspects with fun and exciting gameplay, making you feel like you are embarking on your own adventurous journey.

Game Features

You will not find any of the usual slot symbols in this title. The low-paying symbols are the Chinese Hanzi for numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 and can pay out between 0.02c and €75.00. The higher paying symbols are where you find all the novel’s main characters, which has inspired this slot title.

These are Sha, Pigsy, Xuanzang and the Monkey King: Sun Wukong; Pragmatic Play has channelled these characters’ high power values into the high-paying value of these symbols, which can fall between 0.01c and €500.00.

The other symbols that can hit the reels are the wild and scatter symbols. The wild symbol is a Jade medallion with the word Wild scribed across it and can replace any other symbols besides the Scatter symbol. The Wild symbol also doubles as the highest-paying symbol that maxes out at €2000.00.

The scatter symbol has two golden dragons on either side of the words Free Spins. If 3 or more of these hit your reels, you will be awarded 5 free spins, and if this is repeated during those spins, you will receive a further 3 free spins with no limit to how many can stack. The special feature in the title is that you can choose a set win multiplier before the free spins start that ranges from 1x to 5x.
