Knockoin Slot Review – Demo, RTP & Features

Knockoin is a retro platform-game-inspired slot from Croco Gaming that does more than simply cover the reels in pixel graphics and call it nostalgia. The game borrows familiar ideas from classic platformers, moving boxes, pipes, mushrooms, hidden levels and a hero called Rio, all turning into functioning parts of the gameplay.

Played on a 5×3 grid with 20 pay-lines, Knockoin has a 96.27% RTP, medium volatility, bets from €0.20 to €100, and a maximum win of 15,000x the bet.

The most distinctive part of the game is actually positioned above the reels. A constantly moving row of Boxes contains coins, feature triggers and other rewards, while the Rio Wild can jump up and open whichever Box is directly above him. That creates an unusual secondary layer where you’re following both the regular paylines and whatever potentially valuable Box is moving into position.

Knockoin packs quite a lot around that central idea. There’s the Spray Maw and Egg Wilds, a Wheel of Fortune, 8 Bit Castle Free Spins, a Hold & Win-style Secret Level, an optional Crash Mini Game, two Special Spins modes and direct bonus purchases.

Visually, the inspiration isn’t particularly subtle, and some players may feel Croco Gaming has borrowed a little too enthusiastically from classic platform games. However, the important difference is that the theme actually affects how Knockoin plays rather than existing purely as decoration.

Game Features

A separate row of Boxes travels above the reels, with every Box shifting one position to the left after each regular spin. There are two types:

1. Simple Boxes can reveal a Gold Coin worth 1x to 10x the bet, a Golden Box that triggers the Wheel of Fortune, or no reward.
2. Mystery Boxes can contain larger Gold Coins worth 2x to 20x, a Power-Up Mushroom or a Golden Pipe leading to the Secret Level.

The Rio Wild is what opens them. When Rio lands directly underneath a Box, he jumps up and reveals its contents. The Box then becomes empty and cannot be activated again during normal play.

This gives the base game a little more purpose than simply waiting for a Scatter combination, since a desirable Box can gradually move across the top of the grid while you’re hoping Rio lands underneath it.

Spray Maw & Egg Wilds

The Spray Maw can activate on any spin and throw 2 to 5 Egg Wilds onto random reel positions. Egg Wilds aren’t placed on spaces already occupied by another Wild.

Finding a Power-Up Mushroom inside a Mystery Box also awards a respin where Spray Maw is guaranteed, creating another way for extra Wilds to reach the grid.

Wheel of Fortune

Opening a Golden Box from a Simple Box launches the Wheel of Fortune.

The wheel has 12 prize sectors:

• 1x, 3x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 30x, 50x, 100x, 200x, 500x and 1,000x.

Landing on a sector awards its prize and disables that position. The wheel then spins again. This continues until it lands on a sector that has already been disabled or until all 12 sectors have been successfully cleared.

That gives the feature an interesting push-your-luck quality, since avoiding previously landed sectors allows the accumulated reward to continue growing.

8 Bit Castle Bonus Game

Landing 3 or more Pipe Scatters triggers the 8 Bit Castle Bonus Game:

The Box mechanic changes during these Free Spins. Rather than continually travelling across the top of the reels, Boxes remain in fixed positions and can be activated multiple times.

Reels 2 and 4 always have Mystery Boxes, while reels 1, 3 and 5 have Regular Boxes that are guaranteed to contain a reward. The Power-Up Mushroom also upgrades into a Golden Power-Up Mushroom, which awards respins that continue until a winning spin occurs.

Keeping the Boxes in place works particularly well with the platform-game concept, as useful positions remain available throughout the feature rather than simply disappearing off the side of the screen.

Secret Level Bonus Game

A Golden Pipe revealed from a Mystery Box opens Knockoin’s Secret Level. Instead of conventional Free Spins, this bonus uses 3 refilling spins.

Every Box contains a Gold Coin worth between 2x and 200x the bet, and unlike normal play, each Box can be activated repeatedly. The feature remains active as long as Boxes continue to be opened. Once 3 consecutive spins pass without a Box activation, the Secret Level ends.

This creates a Hold & Win-style rhythm without simply copying the standard locked-coin grid. A successful Box activation can rescue the round when it appears to be only one spin away from ending.

Crash Mini Game

Croco Gaming adds another twist once the Secret Level has finished. Players can take their collected Gold Coin prize or risk it in an optional Crash Mini Game.

A balloon rises while a multiplier increases from 1x towards a maximum of 960x. Cashing out before the balloon bursts secures the multiplied reward; failing to do so means losing the Gold Coin winnings being gambled.

There’s an important detail here: the game’s own information states that optimal RTP is achieved by not playing the Crash Mini Game. It’s an unusual addition nevertheless, effectively putting a crash-game decision at the end of a retro platformer-themed slot bonus.

Special Spins & Buy Bonus

Knockoin provides four alternative feature options, each with its own RTP. Bonus Boost Special Spins make bonus games 5x more likely to trigger and have an RTP of 97.12%.

Rio Spins Special Spins guarantee at least one Rio Wild on every spin and use a fixed Box arrangement. This mode has an RTP of 96.82%, but 8 Bit Castle and the Secret Level cannot trigger while it is active.

The 8 Bit Castle Buy Bonus directly triggers the Free Spins feature and operates at 96.57% RTP. The Secret Level Buy Bonus provides immediate access to the Secret Level at 96.72% RTP.

The two Special Spins modes remain switched on until manually disabled, so it’s particularly important to remember that leaving Rio Spins active prevents either of the main bonus games from appearing.
