Rat Royale Slot Review – Demo, RTP & Features

Rat Royale takes players into a dark underground kingdom ruled by a sinister rat monarch in this medium-volatility slot from Pragmatic Play.

This game embraces a gloomy fantasy atmosphere, combining castle interiors, treasure-filled chambers and an imposing Rat King with an unusual collection of multiplier mechanics.

The Rat King dominates the background, seated on a throne surrounded by gold and precious stones. Cobwebs, candlelit walls and shadowy rooms add to the atmosphere, while the character takes on a more threatening appearance during the Blood Lust Free Spins feature.

The gameplay revolves around a 5×5 grid with 259 ways to win, where matching symbols connect across adjacent reels. Regular Wilds carry multipliers of up to x100, while the Rat King Wild can reach x500 and introduces four different effects depending on the coloured gem it holds.

Three Free Spins modes, Blood Ritual, Blood Pact and Blood Lust, build on these mechanics by introducing minimum Wild multipliers or persistent Rat King Wilds.

Rat Royale slot machine has a highest listed RTP at 96.52%, medium volatility and a maximum advertised payout of 15,000x the stake.

Game Features

Rat Royale uses 5 reels and 5 rows, with a connected-ways system providing 259 ways to win. Winning combinations form from left to right, starting on the first reel. Matching symbols must appear on adjacent reels and connect either on the same row or one row above or below.

The paytable includes five lower-paying card symbols, from 10 to A, and four higher-paying rat characters holding coloured gems. The rat symbols are distinguished by their red, purple, green and blue gems.

The following payouts are expressed as multipliers of the total stake:

The regular symbol payouts are relatively modest, making Wild multipliers an important part of the game’s winning potential.

Regular Wilds and Multipliers

Regular Wild symbols can appear on any of the five reels, with up to 3 Wilds per reel. These substitute for regular paying symbols but not Scatters. Each Wild carries a multiplier, with possible values of:

x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x8, x10, x12, x15, x25, x50 or x100.

The multiplier applies to any winning combination containing that Wild. When multiple Wilds contribute to the same winning combination, their multipliers are added together rather than multiplied.

For example, a winning combination containing an x6 Wild and an x12 Wild receives a combined x18 multiplier. A winning combination consisting of five Wilds pays 3x the stake before applicable Wild multiplier effects.

Rat King Wild

The Rat King Wild is the game’s main special symbol. Unlike regular Wilds, it appears exclusively on reel 3, the middle reel. It carries a multiplier ranging from x2 to x500 and can contribute to winning combinations alongside regular Wilds.

The Rat King holds one of four coloured gems, with each colour determining a different special effect. These effects can increase Wild multipliers, distribute multiplier values or transform paying symbols into additional Wilds.

Red Gem Rat King Wild

The Red Gem Rat King Wild expands to cover the entire middle reel when a winning combination appears during the spin.

After expanding, it receives an additional +x1 multiplier for every visible rat paying symbol holding a red gem. The resulting multiplier applies through the Rat King Wild’s participation in winning combinations.

Purple Gem Rat King Wild

The Purple Gem Rat King Wild collects the multiplier values of all regular Wilds currently visible on the reels.

These values are added to the Rat King’s own multiplier. This allows the Rat King Wild to increase its multiplier using Wild symbols already present on the grid.

Green Gem Rat King Wild

The Green Gem Rat King Wild performs the opposite type of multiplier interaction. Instead of collecting multiplier values from other Wilds, it adds its current multiplier to every regular Wild visible on the reels.

Each affected regular Wild therefore receives an increase based on the Rat King’s multiplier.

Blue Gem Rat King Wild

The Blue Gem Rat King Wild transforms all visible blue-gem rat paying symbols into regular Wilds.

Each newly created Wild receives a random multiplier. These transformed symbols can then substitute for regular paying symbols and contribute their multipliers to winning combinations.

Blood Ritual Free Spins

The first Free Spins mode is Blood Ritual, triggered by landing 3 Scatter symbols.

The feature awards 10 Free Spins. Blood Ritual follows the same general gameplay rules as the base game, but introduces one important change:

Every Wild that lands carries a multiplier of at least x2.

This applies to the Wild symbols appearing during the feature, increasing their minimum multiplier value compared with regular gameplay. As with the other Free Spins modes, landing 3 or more Scatters during the bonus awards 5 additional Free Spins.

Blood Pact Free Spins

Blood Pact activates when 4 Scatter symbols land. Players receive 10 Free Spins, with a Rat King Wild guaranteed in the centre position of the grid throughout the feature.

On every Free Spin, the Rat King Wild receives a random coloured gem, determining which of its four special effects applies.

The Rat King’s multiplier can increase during the feature, and any multiplier gains are retained until the bonus ends. This persistent multiplier gives Blood Pact a different structure from the regular base game, where the Rat King Wild is not guaranteed to appear.

Landing 3 or more Scatters awards an additional 5 Free Spins.

Blood Lust Free Spins

Blood Lust is the highest Free Spins mode, triggered by landing 5 Scatter symbols. The feature begins with 10 Free Spins.

Instead of occupying only the centre position, a fully expanded Rat King Wild covers the entire third reel throughout the bonus. The Rat King receives a random coloured gem on every spin, activating the corresponding special effect.

Any multiplier increases accumulated by the Rat King are retained for the remainder of the feature.

With the Rat King Wild occupying the full middle reel, its Wild and multiplier mechanics remain present throughout Blood Lust.

As in the other bonus modes, landing 3 or more Scatters awards 5 additional Free Spins.

Free Spins Comparison

All three modes award +5 Free Spins when 3 or more Scatters land during the feature.

Ante Bets

Rat Royale includes two Ante Bet options that modify the chances or conditions of triggering Free Spins.

Ante Bet 1 – 2.5x Stake

Activating Ante Bet 1 increases the cost of a spin to 2.5 times the normal stake. In return, the chance of triggering Free Spins becomes 4 times higher.

Ante Bet 2 – 5x Stake

Ante Bet 2 costs 5 times the normal stake and increases the chance of triggering Free Spins. If the bonus activates while this option is enabled, it is guaranteed to be Blood Lust.

The supplied information does not specify the exact increase in bonus-trigger probability for Ante Bet 2.

Feature Buys

Rat Royale also offers two direct bonus purchase options.

The 100x purchase triggers Free Spins without specifying a guaranteed bonus variant. The 500x purchase provides direct access to Blood Lust, with its fully expanded Rat King Wild on the middle reel.
