Popinata slot game

Popinata Slot Game Review

Popinata is one of the newest games to come from RTG (Real Time Gaming), and as you can probably tell from the way the slot is named, the game is themed all around… yep… pinatas!

This Mexican-inspired slot is built using a 5-reel, 10-payline structure, and the game is playable from as little as 10p per spin, right the way up to $2.50 per spin - so while the betting limits are quite a lot lower than you’d typically see on the vast majority of slots, there’s plenty of room for the vast majority of players.

Now, one of the things you will notice about Popinata, is the fact that - like many of RTG’s slots - the graphical work that’s gone into the slot is pretty much impeccable. The background is a Mexican-themed backdrop, which is set at night - so you can expect to see a beautifully-artistic display of stars and twinkling lights.

Symbols on the reels are varied, although thankfully - unlike most video slots today - you won’t find any playing card values. Instead, you’ll see a selection of Pinatas, including a cactus, a rocket, a chilli, a champagne bottle, a guitar, a sandwich, and a sombrero. There’s also a scatter symbol, which is the key to triggering the main bonus round - and we’ll cover the details of this bonus in the following sub-section.

Game Features

While not a ‘feature’ so much, it’s worth pointing out that Popinata pays both ways - and this means that winning paylines can be made from both left-to-right, and right-to-left.

Another ‘not a feature but worth mentioning’ aspect of the game, is the Donkey Wild symbol, as, when the wild symbol lands, it will fill to cover the entire reel.

A re-spin will then be awarded, with the wild symbol stuck in place - and if you manage to land another wild symbol anywhere in view on the other four reels, it too will lock in place, before a re-spin is awarded. It’s possible to make all 5 reels fully wild - and, while incredibly unlikely, of course - there’s some scope for HUGE win-potential here, so it can be worth sticking around for, as even two or three reels can lead to some pretty decent-sized payouts.

Pros: The fact that it’s possible to transform all FIVE reels wild (as opposed to, say, NetEnt’s ‘Starburst’), is a BIG plus point for the game, and there really is some tremendous win-potential available in the base-game.

Cons: Of course, the lack of any form of bonus round will be a disappointment to players wanting a game with some sort of free-spins or bonus round action - so just be aware of this before you begin playing.
