Finn and the Swirly Spin slot - Free Play - Game Review
Finn and the Swirly Spin is a new video slot from NetEnt, and it’s one of the most unique titles we’ve seen released from the game developer, thanks to its unique and quite cool formation.
Now, if you’re familiar with some of PlayNGo’s games, like Viking Runecraft, or Moon Princess, you’ll probably have a good idea already of how Finn and the Swirly Spin is going to work – and that’s because it uses the same exploding symbol reaction process. This means that whenever you make a win, the symbols that contribute towards the win explode, and are replaced by other symbols.
The game itself is themed around an Irish theme, and you’ll find yourself transported to the Emerald Isles; the graphics are, of course, as is the case with most of NetEnt’s titles, spectacular, and a subtle and enjoyable array of graphical animations and sounds help to compliment the gaming experience into one that’s both enjoyable and fun.
The symbols on the reels include two types; the lower-paying symbols are made up of Hearts, Spades, Clubs, Diamonds, and Clovers, while the higher-paying symbols include an Acorn, a Diamond, and a Horseshoe.
There’s also a wild symbol which takes the form of a yellow start, with a pair of eyes on.
The wild symbol is formed either naturally, when you first click the spin button, and it’s also formed when you make a reaction of three symbols; once it does, the wild symbol will appear in the place of the middle symbol. If you make a win using four or five symbols the wild symbol doesn’t appear again, instead, duplicating.
The main bonus-round is a free-spins feature, and this is triggered when you manage to land a key symbol on the middle space of the game’s board.
When you do, you’ll be able to choose one of the bonus rounds, and this includes free-spins with added wilds, free-spins with randomly destroying symbol, free-spins with Irish luck, and free-spins with a magical transformation feature.
There’s also a wide-variety of random in-game features available, and when this happens you’ll see Finn – the little Irish Leprechaun at the bottom right-hand-side of the screen – come to life, before awarding one of the features.
The features he can trigger include adding random wilds to the reels, transforming certain symbols into random symbols, along with Irish Luck, which transforms 5-of-a-kind into a random symbol, for a guaranteed decent win.
Pros: Finn and the Swirly Spin is a unique title that NetEnt have pulled off quite well. It’s fun to play and carries decent win potential, making it a must-play for any NetEnt fan… and as you’ve seen within this review, it’s a game that you’d do well to check out; 10/10 from NetEnt.
Cons: It does feel as though it’s somewhat of a clone or copy-cat of one of Play 'n Go’s slots, but in reality this is something that most software providers do anyway, so it’s generally not too much of an issue.
