Avalon II slot - Free Play - Game Review

Avalon II
Avalon II Rated 4.5/5 based on 3 votes

Avalon II is a popular video slot from Microgaming, that acts as a follow-on from the first title; Avalon – and inside this slot, you’ll see a number of changes, including the esteemed 243-ways-to-win format becoming used – helping you make wins easier, and awarding much more potential to the gameplay in general.

Now, within this review, we’re going to cover some of the main features of the slot – and, as you can imagine, the game is based around the legend of King Arthur, the sword he so desperately tried to find – the Excalibur – and Avalon – the place where the renowned sword was said to have been forged.

The game is playable from as little as 30p per spin, and the maximum win amount – depending on the casino you choose to play at – is £7.50. That may not sound very much… and it’s not… but the reason it’s so low, is down to the simple fact that the game’s potential is so large – it simply can’t be much more, to protect the casinos from having too much financial liability!

Now, the game includes a number of symbols, including traditional playing card symbols, including Ten, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace, and Microgaming have opted to include a “9” symbol, too.

These are all the low-value symbols, and the higher-paying symbols include Avalon, Merlin, a strange cloaked Figure, and the wild symbol is the games logo – this substitutes for all other symbols bar the scatter symbol, which is the Holy Grail.

Any spin during the base-game can trigger the randomly-triggered Merlin bonus. This sees Merlin appear on screen, before awarding you a random cash prize, or stake multiplier. There’s also a randomly-triggered expanding wild which appears on the middle reel only.

When this lands, it simply expands to fill the whole reel, before paying out any new wins it’s helped to created.

The main bonus-round is triggered by landing three or more of the Holy Grail scatter symbols. Once you manage to do so, you’ll enter the Grail Bonus, which is made up of 8 bonuses. This is basically a journey-based, or progression-based bonus-round, that sees you unlock more features as you play more.

There are lots of bonuses inside here, but one of the most popular is the Lake of Legend bonus, which is a dice-roll bonus. You simply need to try and fill up the Excalibur sword by completing all of the bonuses which are able to be unlocked, and this enables you to enjoy a progressive-like journey.

Once you reach the end of all of the 8 bonuses, you’ll receive a final cash prize – which can, by the way, be up to 1,000X your total stake – and the bonus trail then resets, so you essentially start the game again.

Pros: Avalon II is a great follow-on from the first slot, and the 8 different bonuses ensure that you’re not just playing something which you’ve already had to become used to playing, over recent games from Microgaming.

Cons: It’s quite hard to trigger the free-spins once you get near to completing the 8 bonuses, so do be aware of this.
